ABOUT US

THE CENTER FOR WOMEN OF COLOUR

The Center for Women of Colour (CWC) is an organization in Ontario specifically designed to serve girls and women of Colour who reside within Canada who have experienced abuse by providing culturally sensitive counselling. Many of our clients have been raped in war fields and refugee camps around the world before they came to Canada. Counselling these clients is a specialty of the center.

"The CWC is where I found my sisters in Canada!" Survivor.

OUR HISTORY

The Center was founded in 2008 in Hamilton, Ontario by survivors of Abuse.

“We came together because we needed each other. It wasn't planned. We found ourselves in this one room, talking as if we had been friends forever. We knew then that the strength we had gained from one another had to be passed on. And so the CWC was born!” Survivor and Counsellor.

WHAT WE DO

The CWC provides counselling services to women of colour using culture centred counselling. It seeks to be the support base a woman of colour has as she strives to reach her full potential in Canada. The CWC provides empathetic, consistent support and viable opportunities for a healthy life.

“I never thought it was possible to demand the world treat me like a human being and to know deep inside that I am a human being and I deserve to be treated as such.” Survivor

OUR MISSION

The Center for Women of Colour was created to help women find their strength and celebrate their independence so that every home and every relationship is safe, wholesome and free of violence which will enable them to enhance the quality of the community by reaching their self determined goals through culturally appropriate counselling, mentoring, advocacy and education.

OUR VISION

The Center For Women of Colour's vision is to end the physical, sexual and psychological abuse of all women.
